Nightmare Carnival to Elevate Sihanoukville’s Tourism Status

SIHANOUKVILLE: Following the success of Skyfest, Cambodia’s first-ever international kite fest in May, Bay of Lights Entertainment is hosting the largest Halloween celebration in Cambodia from October 20-November 4 in Sihanoukville.

An event was held to announce the details of the upcoming Nightmare Carnival, attended by Sihanoukville Governor Mr. Kuoch Chamroeun, and Deputy Governors Mr. Long Dimanche and Mr. Em Pheap, who welcomed the announcement as a means to boost tourism to the area.

Over 15 days, guests at the Nightmare Carnival will be able to explore their spooky side with scary movie screenings, live music performances, and a haunted maze with live action scares. The event aims to attract all kinds of thrill seekers from families to partygoers to social media influencers. Children looking to celebrate will enjoy trick or treating, face-painting and a kids’ adventure zone just for them. People of all ages will enjoy the fare of over 20 food vendors serving up local and international cuisine in addition to carnival games and prizes.

"In line with our commitment to create an unprecedented ecosystem of leisure and excitement, we are leveraging our signature events to bring new layers of richness to Sihanoukville’s tourism scene," said Mr. Edward Lee, spokesperson of Bay of Lights.

"The Nightmare Carnival isn't merely an event; it's a strategic push towards achieving our vision of establishing Sihanoukville as a hotspot for experiential tourism," Mr. Edward Lee.

Saturday, October 28 will be a particularly fun day to show off costumes and talents in the Walking Dead Parade, the Thriller Flash Mob, or the Fancy Dress Fun Run.

Sihanoukville Governor Kuoch Chamroeun welcomed the event as an opportunity to attract tourism and boost the local economy, with the carnival employing hundreds of locals. He said that events like the Nightmare Carnival and Sky Fest support local restaurants, hotels and retailers by expanding foot traffic to Sihanoukville. He noted that safety is a top priority for his administration and that local authorities will be on hand to help with traffic and fire safety.

With its focus on intellectual property events and experiential tourism offerings, Bay of Lights aims to set a new standard for what Sihanoukville, and indeed Cambodia, can offer to the world.
